Believe it or not, the volcanic soil and mild winters of the Verde Valley region provide ideal conditions similar to the wine-making regions of France and Italy. Located approximately 20 miles outside of Sedona, the Verde Valley Wine Trail offers a variety of skillfully crafted wines to satisfy every palate. Each winery has a unique personality and with tasting rooms abound, there is much for guests to discover. Because of the quality of soil and weather, the area hosts over 20 vineyards and tasting rooms within a 6-mile radius not to mention delicious food. Merkin Vineyards located in Old Town Cottonwood offers locally sourced food in their trattoria and it's delicious! Their stated mission is “to come as close as we can to delivering a 100% Arizona experience.” Before or after your meal, enjoy a wine tour and take a stroll through Old Town Cottonwood. It is charming and filled with cute shops to explore. Surrounded by jagged mountains to the south and west and mesas and buttes to the north and east, Cottonwood is named after the trees that grow along the Verde River. The town grew from a small farming community and Old Town retains the charm of times gone by.
